DISCOVER THE INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ART, MIAMI
The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA MIAMI) has done it again. They continually impress our team with their world-class exhibitions, and the last few months have been no exception. David Allan Charette, principal here at Britto Charette, recently visited ICA to view a survey of Joyce Pensato, and Masaomi Yasunaga’s Traces of Memory.
JOYCE PENSATO
More than five decades of works from acclaimed American painter Joyce Pensato were on display. From Mickey Mouse to Batman, the exhibition depicted her unique take on American culture. You can read more about the exhibition here on the museum’s website.
“Joyce Pensato’s work bridges high art and popular culture.”

David told our team that viewing the exhibition of Pensato’s work was a thought-provoking experience—causing him to reflect on the influence of pop culture in our daily lives.

MASAOMI YASUNAGA
Renowned Japanese ceramicist Masaomi Yasunaga uses innovative techniques (burying the glaze in sand before firing it) to achieve ethereal organic forms. His exhibition, Traces of Memory, at the ICA captivated David. “I find that I am drawn to the texture of his work and the fact that these aren’t ‘perfect’ pieces. What you see is the process. I love the texture and the colors. And it seems like gravity is working on each of these pieces.”

The site-specific ICA exhibition was billed as the “first major US museum exhibition” for the artist and showcased several of Yasunaga’s recent works.
**If you haven’t already visited, run don’t walk, because the exhibition ends April 19th.**
