Think brick-and-mortar retail is dead? Think again. It’s all about attraction, Baby. Our very own David Charette and Jay Britto were invited to share their interior design know-how with this year’s M&O Paris attendees. They served up their Laws of Attraction—a blueprint for luring customers away from their screens and into your stores.

David says designs that get customers in the door must:
• Create Connections
• Entice with Information
• Offer Unique Experiences
• Produce Beautiful, Shareable Content
• Seamlessly Incorporate Technology
The duo shared examples of Britto Charette designs that incorporate the Laws of Attraction and they also provided practical information, such as how to give your retail design longevity. “Neutrals are a good choice,” says Britto. “Use color as accents and that will help your brand save money and make it easier to freshen the design without completely redoing it in a couple of years.”
But what’s the sexy little nugget of information—the ultimate Law of Attraction—that the designers have learned? “It’s all about experiences,” says David. “As we become more selective about everything, from the movies we choose to see in widescreen format in a theater vs. streaming on the go or at home, to the museums we visit because they have Instagrammable exhibits…the same applies to shopping. Customers are looking for experiences. Novelty. We need to show them how they can connect with each other and with the products or services that brick-and-mortar stores are offering.”
