Britto Charette Shares Highlights from Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone

Our principals, Jay Britto and David Allan Charette, have just returned from another inspiration-filled trip to Milan for the citywide celebration of Design Week. The annual event brings together design lovers from around the world to visit the renowned tradeshow venue (Salone del Mobile) as well as Fuorisalone, a citywide gallery of design installations.

MILAN’S FURNITURE FAIR

Every April, Milano pulls out all the stops to host the must-see design event, Salone del Mobile. The furniture fair is the largest in the world and offers interior designers like David Allan and Jay the chance to meet with the artists, designers, and craftspeople behind the designs they love. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to see the prototypes and new products that some of our favorite luxury brands brands are rolling out this year.

“The Salone del Mobile tradeshow is important for many reasons. But one of the biggest reasons I need to be there is that I can personally review and ‘try out’ the pieces we’re specifying in our designs. That chair our clients fell in love with when they saw it online? I’m going to take it for a test run because I want to make sure the proportions are right and that the materials are compatible with the use the furniture will sustain.”

In 2026, Salone del Mobile hosted more than 300k attendees. The visitors walked more than 125,000 sqm of tradeshow real estate to see products from more than 900 brands. But that wasn’t all. Under the umbrella of Salone, exhibitors also showcased their brands at EuroCucina and the International Bathroom Exhibition.*

When you hear designers talk about being exhausted during their trip to Salone del Mobile, it’s because of the vastness of the space that they are navigating. But Jay and David Allan say it’s worth every blister and foot cramp to be able to make connections with many of the world’s premiere furniture, accessory, and lighting designers.

WHAT IS FUORISALONE?

In addition to the tradeshow, Salone del Mobile, the city also hosts a seemingly endless supply of exhibitions and gallery openings during Design Week. Fuorisalone (from the Italian word fuori meaning “outside”) runs simultaneously at venues throughout Milan. 2026 saw an unprecedented number of art and design exhibitions that inspired our design team. One of our designers’ favorites? L’Appartamento by Artemest.
